Pont de Rennes | City of Rochester
Project Details
Value: $72,500
Completion Date: 2025
Project Overview:
Loyal 9 Development was commissioned to fabricate and install custom hardwood benches and planters along the iconic Pont de Rennes pedestrian bridge in downtown Rochester, NY. The project supports the City’s ongoing riverfront enhancements and introduces a durable, high-quality public seating solution that complements the scenic overlook of the Genesee River and Upper Falls.
Key Features:
IPE Hardwood Benches (10 total):
Constructed from IPE—a tropical hardwood known for its strength, density, and weather resistance—the benches were fabricated off-site and installed on pre-engineered mounting frames.
Each bench includes chamfered edges and contoured seating surfaces for comfort and aesthetic appeal.
Stainless steel fasteners and concealed brackets ensure a clean finish and long-term durability in all weather conditions.
Selfie Bench at Pont de Rennes Overlook:
One of the ten benches includes an integrated “Pont de Rennes” backrest sign, fabricated in powder-coated steel and mounted to the hardwood slats.
Positioned for optimal scenic views, the bench is designed as a public photo point to encourage social sharing and civic pride.
Installed on a widened platform section of the bridge, it includes an open backdrop to frame the falls and skyline in every image.
Modular IPE Planters:
Fabricated in matching hardwood and installed in pairs, the planters serve both functional and decorative roles.
Each unit includes a black metal liner and concealed drainage to support long-term planting cycles.
Anchored at designated intervals, the planters help organize pedestrian flow and soften the structural environment with seasonal plantings.
Installation Details:
All units were field-fitted to existing bridge infrastructure and installed per stamped engineered drawings.
Mounting surfaces were prepped and sealed; flashing and drainage clearances were verified for code compliance and maintenance access.
Final finish included cleaning, oiling of hardwood, and site punch-list coordination with city personnel.
Execution:
Loyal 9 Development delivered a one-of-a-kind site furnishing solution that blends craftsmanship, sustainability, and urban placemaking. The Pont de Rennes benches and planters enhance the public’s experience of Rochester’s riverfront, while the selfie bench provides a new, memorable landmark for residents and visitors alike.
